Computer Desktop & Notebook Repair:

MTC will service all Sony Warranty & Out of Warranty computer desktops & notebooks. MTC will also attempt to service all other Manufacturers when unit is Out of Warranty.



Warranty Service:

If a Customer deems their notebook/desktop to be inoperable, they must first call Sony Vaio Support at 1-888-476-6972 for troubleshooting. If Sony determines that the unit needs to be repaired by a technician (and the Customer doesn't live within driving distance of MTC/Sony), they will send out a box to the Customer. This box will allow the Customer to ship their unit free of charge. If their unit is deemed Out of Warranty at the time of diagnosis, fees will then apply. When packaging their unit for shipping (or dropping off), Customers must include their Proof of Purchase (POP) or store receipt. This will ensure a faster repair. If the POP is not received, the MTC Customer Service group will have to contact the Customer to verify the Warranty. If the Customers Warranty is not valid, Out of Warranty pricing will be discussed (see the Out of Warranty Service section below for more information).

Customers must also include the following inside the box: a letter with their full name, phone number, return address and a description of the problem.

NOTE: If a Customer has a unit that was purchased in the USA (or is a non-Canadian model), MTC will be able to repair the unit if it is under manufacturers Warranty. If the unit is under Extended Warranty, the unit will need to be taken back to the store/depot of purchase for service.

NOTE: Warranty will automatically be void if physical or liquid damage.

Notes for Warranty Computer Desktop/Notebook Service:
  • Customers are responsible for backing up their hard drives. This includes any valuable data they have stored. The contents of their hard drive may be lost or reformatted in the course of service. Sony and MTC will not be responsible for any damage to, or loss of any program, data or information.
  • Some desktops/notebooks have a 1-year Warranty while others have a 3-year Warranty. Customers should call MTC at 1-877-779-9929 to determine their Warranty terms.


Out of Warranty Service:

As long as Manufacturer's parts have been made available to MTC, all makes and models of computers/notebooks can be serviced Out Of Warranty. The Customer must pay an estimate fee before the Customer Service Rep can proceed to book-in their unit (see below for pricing). Once the Customer's unit has been diagnosed, the Customer will be contacted with an estimate for labour (+ parts if applicable). The Customer has a right to refuse the estimate or proceed with the repair. However, all Customers will be charged an estimate fee for MTC to diagnose their unit (see below for pricing).

If a Customer decides to ship their unit into MTC, the Customer will pay for the incoming & outgoing shipping charges (outgoing will be factored into the estimate). Customers may also drop off & pick-up their units at MTC Whitby, ON. Click here for directions.

The Customer should ensure their unit is well packaged and they have enclosed the following items: a letter with their full name, phone number, return address and a description of the problem. Also, the Customer must make sure to send their Credit Card information or a Certified Cheque (no personal cheques) or Money Order made out to the Manufacturing & Technology Centre (MTC), for the correct price (prices below do not include applicable taxes - taxes extra), along with their unit. If the Customer picks-up their unit from MTC, they can also pay Cash or Debit. Tax exempt forms should also be sent to MTC with unit/payment.
